Since announcing the phased consolidation of its Strathmerton cheese processing and packaging operations in May last year, the focus of Bega Group has remained firmly on supporting its people.
With the transition to the Ridge Street site in Bega expected to be complete by mid-2026, Bega Group has worked collaboratively with several departments to host the fair.
The event is dedicated to creating new pathways and connecting employees with meaningful employment opportunities across the region.
The fair will feature a wide range of local employers, training providers, and career support services,
Bega Group chief executive Pete Findlay said they were grateful for the collaboration with Moira Shire Council, Regional Development Victoria and the broader community.
“Our priority is to ensure every employee feels supported and respected throughout this transition,” he said.
“Importantly, we’ve listened to our employees and understand that many want to stay in the local area, which is why connecting them with regional opportunities is at the heart of this initiative.”
Attendees will have access to career coaching, resume support and introductions to hiring businesses across the region.
Moira Shire Council chief executive Matthew Morgan said the fair was a “vital step” in helping the community.
“Bega’s initiative in providing this opportunity to affected employees will build on the success of the Moira Jobs Fair that we held in Cobram in June 2025,” he said.
“Our highest priority is to keep local people and local jobs within our community.”
The Jobs and Career Fair is open to all current Strathmerton employees and will be held on-site, with production pausing on the day so all employees can attend.
Workforce Australia job co-ordinator Faye D’Helin said losing your job could be challenging, especially in regional Victoria.
“My role is to help people reconnect with opportunities, whether that’s through local jobs, training, or government support services,” she said.
“The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations funds the Local Jobs Program.”
