The restaurant chain began as an Adelaide food truck in 2016 and has grown to more than 20 stores across Australia, serving Vietnamese food across the country.
To celebrate the opening on Saturday, Bami Shepparton will give away 50 free bánh mì rolls at noon and 50 free bowls of pho from 5pm on a first come, first served basis.
Bami head of marketing Benito Cirillo said the company hoped to bring more than food to the region.
“We want to bring our food and culture to Australia, and that includes regional places like Shepparton,” he said.
At each Bami restaurant there is a mini museum to teach visitors about Vietnamese culture.
“When waiting for a food order, you can look around at all the artefacts and have a read and catch up on what makes Vietnam so special,” Mr Cirillo said.
The menu features Vietnamese favourites including pho, fried rice, stir-fries and bánh mì packed with fresh vegetables, herbs and meat or tofu.
Mr Cirillo said fresh ingredients were central to Vietnamese cooking and culture.
“In Vietnamese culture, we always eat a lot of fresh food and greens,” he said.
He said Bami prided itself on having “fast, fresh and healthy food”.
Mr Cirillo recommends Bami’s signature bánh mì, and said it was his go-to meal.
The restaurant’s name is also a nod to bánh mì, one of Vietnam’s best-known dishes, with staff referring to each other as part of the ‘Bamily’.
Bami Vietnamese is opening at 57-59 Fryers St, Shepparton. Refer to its Facebook page for more information.
