The card, available now through the Transport Victoria website, gives anyone under-18 free travel across the state’s public transport network.
All young people under-18 are eligible for a youth myki card, no matter where they live.
On booked V/Line services, the youth myki card number can be used to access free travel.
On non-myki regional buses, children can use youth myki as a flash pass.
Victorian Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams said the program would make everyday life more affordable.
“We’re helping families save on everyday costs, whether it be cheaper school runs or cheaper weekend trips to the footy — this gives families one less thing to worry about,” she said.
With an annual student pass currently costing $755, families with multiple children stand to save hundreds of dollars each year.
Youth myki cards will also be available from staffed train stations from Saturday, December 27.
The card features a colourful new design created by 11-year-old Victorian student Charlie, celebrating the many ways young people will use free travel in the year ahead.
More benefits are coming in 2026, when more than 650,000 seniors and almost 300,000 carers and disability support pensioners will also receive free weekend travel.
Families are already enjoying free weekend travel statewide until February 1, 2026 as part of the Metro Tunnel opening celebrations.
