Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the extra bin collections were a way to say thanks to residents for adapting to the fortnightly schedule and to ease the household load with the extra waste and recyclables generated over the busy holiday period.
“Christmas and new year are a time for celebrations with family and friends, with gift-giving, visitors and shared meals leaving less space than usual in our bins,” Dr Emonson said.
“The extra collections will lighten that load and make it easier to sort waste correctly.
“We congratulate householders for their efforts at sustainability this year, as more and more recyclable and organic waste is being diverted from landfill.”
Details of the Christmas and new year kerb side waste collection are:
The week starting Monday, December 22: All three bins, organics (green lid), recycling (yellow lid) and landfill (red lid) will be emptied on your regular collection day.
On Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day): If your usual bin day is a Thursday, your three bins will be emptied on Friday, December 26 instead.
The week starting Monday, December 29: All three bins will be emptied on your regular collection day.
On Thursday, January 1 (New Year’s Day): If your usual bin day is a Thursday, your three bins will be emptied on Friday, January 2 instead.
Glass (purple lid) bin collections days are unchanged.
The resource recovery centres in Yarrawonga and Cobram will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The centres in Numurkah, Nathalia and Barmah will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The centres will be open normal hours on all other days, except on days of catastrophic fire danger or total fire ban.
