The Shepparton Bridge Club players also won the teams event alongside Leigh Carroll and Adam Peirce from the Echuca Bridge Club.
Mr Walsh said the competition was fantastic, bringing lots of people from surrounding clubs to Shepparton.
The pair will now compete at the Victorian championships, where 14 teams will face off.
Mr Walsh said they were likely the first Shepparton Bridge Club pair to progress to the state competition.
“Neither of us has played in any of the major competitions before,” Mr Walsh said.
“I have been playing for 10 years … which is a relatively short time. My partner has been playing for 45 years.”
With games lasting from six to eight hours at competitions, Mr Walsh believes bridge helps keep your brain active.
“Bridge has so many benefits for the mind,” he said.
The Shepparton Bridge Club is currently running beginner lessons on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings at the U3A Hall in Esson St, Shepparton.
Pairs winners: Wayne Leppard and Nick Walsh with NRBA president Graeme Hegarty.
