As part of this year’s Shepparton Festival, organisers are striving to provide the region with the best in entertainment.
The split bill stand-up show Very Mature is written and performed by Melbourne duo Sweeney Preston and Ethan Cavanagh.
Following the critically acclaimed, sold-out, extended season at the 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the duo is excited to get back on the road and resume a tour that 2020 put on hold.
"After performing this show in Hobart, Adelaide, Ballarat and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, we're so excited to be bringing it to the good people of Shepparton,“ Mr Preston said.
"While the content of our show is mostly about us navigating our lives as young folk, the themes are relatable to everyone.
“If you’re in your 20s, ever have been, or ever will be, this is the perfect how-to-guide, or rather, the ultimate how-not-to-guide."
While the two up-and-comers can’t promise an overdose of wisdom, as the only stand-up show on the Shepparton Festival program, they do assure a whole lot of laughs.
And with half of the comedy act hailing from regional Victoria, the importance of playing in rural areas is not lost on the team.
"Having grown up in regional areas of Ararat and Ballarat, I know how important it is to add places like Shepparton to the tour list because a lot of shows skip it,“ Mr Cavanagh said.
“Just because it’s a regional city doesn’t mean people don’t want a laugh; we’ve found that some of our best audiences have been at shows in regional Vic."
Although they are now certified Melburnians, they promise a wealth of local content to keep audiences enthralled.
"We love including local references in our stand-up — the audience always goes bananas for it and it helps keep the show fresh and exciting for us, it’s a win-win,’’ Mr Cavanagh said.
The show is on at The Vault, Shepparton on Thursday, March 24. Tickets are available via https://sheppartonfestival.org.au/event/very-mature/
