SDHS life member John Jennings, an engaging speaker with a lifetime of stories, will explore three mystery objects from the society’s collection.
The objects have never been seen up close before and will provide insights into some of the people and events that have shaped Seymour’s history.
You can also hear about the work the society is doing to conserve the heritage collection, which was damaged in the floods.
The collection had to be relocated to temporary storage while the society’s Tallarook St rooms are repaired.
Volunteers developed a flood recovery plan and have been attending fortnightly working bees to conserve the rich collection of Seymour and district documents, photographs and objects held on behalf of the community.
SDHS president Geoff Halpin said the society was lucky to be surrounded by a community that cared about the town’s shared history.
“We appreciate and thank the Uniting Church for making storage space available to us, our shire for tackling all that needs doing to our rooms in Tallarook St, as well as our members who are working together to make our collection even better,” Mr Halpin said.
“We invite the community to join us.”
The talk will be held on Sunday, May 28, from 2pm to 3pm at Chittick Park Community Place, Seymour.
A gold coin donation is appreciated; afternoon tea will be provided.
