On September 12, 30 members of the Hammon family gathered at ‘Barangoan’, Boomahnoomoonah to celebrate 150 years of farming.
A plaque was unveiled on the centenary cairn with the inscription ‘1876 – 2026 A Sesquicentenary’.
The plaque commemorates 150 years of farming including the ‘original selection’ by five generations of the Hammon family.
The Hammon’s historic family home at Barangoan.
Peter Hammon gave a brief history of the previous generations and how in the 1870’s, the areas around Yarrawonga were gazetted for closer settlement.
This enabled large tracts of land to be subdivided into smaller blocks to then be then balloted out for selection.
