Greater Shepparton Secondary College has begun the process of recruiting a Koori community representative to serve on the school council.
A notice calling for expressions of interest in the position has been distributed to the school community.
“The school is currently in an important phase of development and given the desire for school council member diversity and ensuring the student experience is front and centre of GSSC's governance, we are looking to fill a community member position that will represent the Koori community,” the recruitment letter states.
The school has also established a cultural advisory committee in response to a damning report that found systemic racism.
The Education Department said the report was commissioned to have a completely open dialogue with community leaders as the new school builds a strong culture.
Expressions of interest close on May 21 and the appointment is expected to be made in early June.
