Students and staff at Greater Shepparton Secondary College McGuire campus were forced into lockdown yesterday.
Parents and guardians of students were alerted via text message of the lockdown around 2 pm.
“Dear Parents, GSSC McGuire College Campus is currently in lockdown,” the message said.
“We will keep you informed of any updates."
A spokesperson for the Department of Education said the alarm was raised after a threatening report was made to the school.
“Greater Shepparton Secondary College’s McGuire campus took appropriate precautionary measures this afternoon while police attended the school in response to reports of a member of the public holding a weapon,” the spokesperson said.
“This report was a false alarm, and police quickly deemed the school safe.
“Students soon returned to their normal daily routine."
