K4C founder Mr Nixon joined Shepparton leukemia survivor Alistair Hand, 26, 10-year-old brain cancer sufferer Charlotte Morrow-Dick and former Richmond superstar Jake King at Rumbalara FC to launch the game on Friday morning.
“The Kicking for Cancer game and organisation started last year on the back of seeing several young people with cancer — seeing what they were going through was breaking my heart,” Mr Nixon said.
“So, I started a game and consulted players like Jake King and said let’s do something for these kids, let’s play a game which features people who have recovered from cancer – male and female – and ex-AFL superstars.
“I’ve been blown away by the support.”
Mr Nixon said after a 4 pm curtain-raiser between Shepparton and Albury, the K4C game, starting at 7 pm, would feature 15 ex-AFL stars who will put their bodies on the line to raise money for kids with cancer.
A Legends Dinner will follow the game, to be hosted by Rex Hunt and Sam Newman.
Mr Nixon said it would be hard to find two blokes who were more entertaining than the duo.
“Rex Hunt and Sam Newman, they’re just the experts — Rex has assured me it’ll be the best show of his life,” he said.
“I think it’s great for the community.”
