Closing its doors as a quirky op shop nearly a year ago, it’s believed the building was beginning to fall down.
Tradies undertaking the demolition last week got a surprise when they discovered dozens of receipt books dating back nearly 100 years.
Workers dusted off the crumbly brown receipt books which revealed they were from Arthur E Date - Plumber and Hardware Merchant. The books were taken to a local historian who is looking into the past of the much loved building.
Tradies said a number of locals had been asking what happened to the large stove which had been housed in the building.
To the disappointment of many who might have hoped to make it theirs, the new owners will be keeping the iconic oven as a feature of the new development.
It's expected the site will be transformed into a coffee shop and entertainment space made from shipping containers.
