Detective Senior Constable Shaun-Marie Brock said authorities were called to a fire behind the Mooroopna Cemetery at 9 pm.
“It is being treated as suspicious, we believe it was deliberately lit or started from a campfire in the area,” she said.
“It burned between two to three hectares.
“It started on crown land and moved on to private land, and burnt on Echuca Rd.”
“At this stage no one has been arrested or identified as a person of interest or suspect.”
“If anyone has witnessed anything in the area around that time please give police or Crime Stoppers a call.”
Det Sen Const Brock said there was another incident on Saturday outside Coles on the corner of Maude and Vaughan Sts.
“Someone put a large amount of toilet paper roles in a new metal bin and set fire to it at approximately 4.30 pm.
“If anyone has information we ask them to come forward to Shepparton police or Crime Stoppers.”
It's the third suspicious fire in a matter of days, after a grass fire burnt about 40 hectares in Girgarre on Friday.
Arrests made for arson
Det Sen Const Shaun-Marie Brock said last week two men in their 40s were charged with recklessly and deliberately causing a bushfire.
“One related to an incident that took place on January 2, where a man started a fire on the Boulevard in Stuart Reserve,” she said.
“The fire burnt approximately 30 by 30 metres of bush land.”
Det Sen Const Brock said the second man was charged with lighting two fires on January 7 in the bush near Welsford St and the Midland Hwy.
“There was a second fire lit in Murchison,” she said.
“Both were small fires but there were extreme conditions given it was 38 degrees and windy.”
