According to Greater Shepparton City Council, a fire at its kerbside collection contractor Veolia's facility has forced the delay.
It said Veolia had been forced to run from the Ardmona site and would not be able to accept any additional waste due to lack of capacity.
The council said it would reschedule the dates for waived fees at the Ardmona site, which had originally been planned for Saturday, January 11 and Saturday, January 25.
“This is an interim arrangement until Veolia can identify a suitable alternative site and establish appropriate provisions,” the council's acting infrastructure director Timothy Zak said.
“To ensure the kerbside collection service was maintained, it was necessary to make use of the Ardmona site by our contractor.
“Therefore, the planned free waste days at the Ardmona site needed to be deferred. It is important to note that the free waste days at the other sites, Shepparton and Murchison, are proceeding as advertised.
“When the site is no longer required for the kerbside collection contractor’s use, council will consider and advise of future arrangements for a free waste day at this location.”
Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre is open this Saturday from 8 am until 4.15 pm.
Murchison Resource Recovery Centre is open this Sunday from 1 pm until 3.45 pm.
