Shepparton police First Constable Matt Clowes described the incident as "confronting" and "brazen", praising the fast actions of officers to find the seven offenders.
"I would just like to reassure the community that a prompt response has resulted in an outcome that we have today - obviously without the help of the community and us working in with them, we wouldn’t get the results we’ve got," he said.
Const Clowes said police initially responded to reports of an incident at JB Hi-Fi on Wyndham St, Shepparton, just before 1pm.
He said initial reports were that a gang of offenders attended the store with their faces covered, stealing a number of electrical items.
"The identified items were mainly Apple items ... the offenders have attended and used their numbers and force to grab these electrical items before fleeing the store," Const Clowes said.
Const Clowes said immediate police investigations resulted in the quick arrest of seven people.
Police confirmed nobody was injured during the incident and no threats were made to anyone inside the store at the time.
Const Clowes said following the incident, police viewed CCTV footage from inside the store, which showed the offenders going in and out of the store within a number of minutes.
"They have attended that store, police will allege with the intent to get what they’ve got, they’ve only been in the store for approximately one or two minutes and then straight back out," he said.
Const Clowes said seven offenders, a combination of youths and adults, were arrested after the incident in the Shepparton area.
Following their arrest, Const Clowes said most, if not all, of the property was found in the offenders' possession.
He acknowledged the brazenness of the incident, with the offenders targeting the store during the day and concealing their faces.
After similar gang style "smash and grab" thefts have occurred at electronic stores across Melbourne in the past couple of months, Const Clowes reassured that the Greater Shepparton community was safe.
"This isolated incident that we have dealt with in Shepparton obviously has been resolved quite quickly," he said.
"To reassure anyone who was involved down there or subjected to it, we have no further offenders outstanding at this stage and obviously we have been able to sort this one out fairly quick."
Police charged seven teenagers over the theft.
