The shot was fired in response to Ms Lovell’s commotion about the lack of a funding commitment for stage two of the Goulburn Valley Health redevelopment.
Speaking in an adjournment debate to the health minister, Ms Lovell questioned why the GV Health Master Plan had not been released and called on the Ms Mikakos to provide certainty for the Goulburn Valley community by committing funding for stage two.
“The completion of the second stage of the GV Health redevelopment is vital to ensure the people of the Goulburn Valley are not left with half a hospital,” Ms Lovell said.
However, the questioning did not faze Ms Mikakos, who said she “won’t be lectured to by Wendy Lovell”.
“The Liberal Nationals don’t know what work goes into building a hospital because they didn’t build them,” she said.
Although a review of the 2015 GV Health Master Plan was due to be finalised in June 2018, the 2019-20 Victorian budget provided $2 million towards planning for a potential next stage development of the hospital.
“Getting the planning right is an important first step when it comes to hospital redevelopments — and that’s exactly what we’re doing, with planning money for stage two of the Shepparton hospital redevelopment in this year’s budget.”
Ms Mikakos' comments came as she visited the hospital with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Wednesday to announce a $58 million boost to stage one of the project.
The additional funding brings the Victorian Government’s investment in the project so far to $229.3 million.
