Mooroopna Kiwanis Club donates thousands to local school

This giant cheque will fill hundreds of empty students' stomachs at Mooroopna Park Primary School.

Mooroopna Kiwanis Club donated $3000 to the school’s healthy food program, an initiative that provides every student with four free meals a day, five days a week.

School principal Hayden Beaton said students' engagement and attendance has skyrocketed since the program began in May.

“Kids are eating a variety of healthy food each day; the amount of fruit they eat has even surprised me," he said.

“They don't need to bring any food to school, so no rubbish, no sugars or pre-packaged foods."

Eight hundred dollars of the donation was given to the Mooroopna Men’s Shed to build outdoor tables and chairs for students to soak up the sun while eating their snacks.

Kiwanis decided to inject funds into the program in a bid to enhance local students’ education.

The cash boost will take the school to within reach of its target of raising $30 000, the cost of feeding every child every day for a year.
