100 days of smiles as Prep students celebrate milestone

Prep students across the Campaspe region have celebrated their first 100 days of school, marking a milestone in their learning with themed dress-ups, activities and celebrations recognising how far they have come since their first day.

At Elmore Primary School, students dressed as what they imagined they would look like at 100 years old, created ageing-app portraits and wrote about their future aspirations.

Teacher Daisy Acocks said the milestone was a wonderful chance to celebrate how much the students had grown and the strong sense of belonging they had built.

“They’ve made great friendships and relationships with all the members of the classroom and staff. They’ve fitted in really well,” she said.

At Rochester Primary School, students marked the occasion alongside their Year 6 buddies, having already reached impressive milestones in reading, writing, numeracy and independence.

Teacher Brooke Pascoe said the progress over the first 100 days had been remarkable.

“We’ve seen vast changes in the students. The Foundation year is full of growth. They’re like sponges,” Ms Pascoe said.

At Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School in Elmore, students celebrated 100 magical days by dressing as magical characters, making crafts and enjoying a special lunch.

Teacher Kim Portwine said watching the students’ development had been one of the highlights of the year.

“It makes me so proud to see what they came in knowing and what they can do now. It’s literally the reason I do my job,” Mrs Portwine said.

Over at Lockington Consolidated School, the theme was 100 days brighter, with Prep students donning their most colourful outfits, presenting 100-day projects they had crafted at home and joining in activities with their Year 6 buddies.

Teacher Jenny Howlett said the celebration recognised just how much the students had achieved since starting school.

“One hundred days of school celebrates how much the Preps have achieved and grown since their first ‘scary’ day of big school,” she said.

Across the region, the celebrations recognised not only 100 days in the classroom, but the confidence, friendships and love of learning students have developed during their first year of primary school.
