One dead after car drives through fence near playground

One person is dead and two others seriously injured after a car ploughed through a fence near a suburban playground.

The vehicle lost control on Coleman Road at Wantirna South, in Melbourne's east, just after midday on Thursday.

Victoria Police said the incident wasn't believed to be intentional.Â

One of the people struck by the car, believed to be an adult, died at the scene.

A second adult was taken to The Alfred Hospital in a critical condition and a child was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital in a serious condition.

The car driver was not seriously injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics responded to the crash about 12.20pm.

VICSES is on the scene to assist investigators.
