Albanese locks in Indian PM meeting during G20 summit

He's expected to meet with a number of world leaders on the sidelines of the global summit, including his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Mr Albanese gave Mr Modi a rockstar reception when he visited Sydney in 2023 and the pair met subsequently at the Quad summit in 2024.

The Australian prime minister has also flagged conversations with leaders from Korea, Japan, Europe and Canada during his two days at the G20.

Mr Albanese was keen to emphasise the economic benefits the trip could bring to Australia.

"G20 member countries make up 85 per cent of the world's economic output," he said in a statement shortly before his departure.

"Being part of the G20 helps build a stronger, more resilient global economy which benefits all Australians at home."

The Labor leader is expected to return to Australia very early on Monday morning, the start of the final parliamentary sitting week of the year.
