For much of the year, seniors in our society find themselves tagging along with younger generations to all sorts of events, from recorder recitals to school pick-ups, but the month of October is all about them.

Seniors across the Goulburn Valley will have more than 100 events tailored just for them during October’s Victorian Seniors Festival 2023.
The festival starts on Sunday, October 1 with ‘Breakfast with the Birds’ at Reedy Swamp and concludes on Tuesday, October 31.
The statewide theme for this year’s festival is ‘Learn, live, love’, which focuses on the importance of finding new things to learn, embracing experiences that bring joy and having the freedom to live life as you choose as you age.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said seniors represented 25 per cent of the municipality’s population, and the festival was an opportunity for older members of the community to connect through social activities.
“We look forward to seeing our seniors engaging in activities that increase and create connections, encourage them to be social and have a good time,” he said.
“We encourage residents to go out, enjoy themselves and participate in the many events taking place throughout the festival. This is the perfect opportunity to discover the region and have fun.”

There will also be a statewide launch of the festival on Sunday, October 1 at Federation Square in Melbourne.
Back in Greater Shepparton, the festival’s main event will be a state government-sponsored concert headlined by The Beatlez Tribute Show on Tuesday, October 10 at Riverlinks Eastbank in Shepparton.
