YieldX is positioning Australian innovation at the forefront of the global transition to more productive, resilient and efficient food systems.
Melbourne based AgTech company YieldX has reached a major commercial inflection point, launching a world first high-density growing system that unlocks unused space inside existing greenhouses and materially lifts grower productivity without expanding footprint, land or energy use.

Originally engineered for the NASA deep space food program, YieldX’s system is now operating at commercial scale on earth, delivering verified production gains inside a 4,000 square metre greenhouse at Butler Market Gardens in Lyndhurst, Victoria.
The site will be formally launched later this month and marks the transition of YieldX from advanced pilot into full commercial rollout.
Since March 2025, YieldX has progressed rapidly from seed funding to international deployment.
In April last year the company completed a $1.7 million seed round backed by The Eagle Fund, a joint venture between Breakthrough Victoria and La Trobe University, alongside Mandalay Venture Partners and LaunchVic’s Hugh Victor McKay Fund.
That funding accelerated engineering, commercial readiness and global market entry.
In November 2025 YieldX commissioned a fully operational industry pilot with Butler Market Gardens, one of Australia’s most respected leafy green producers supplying major supermarket chains nationwide.
The pilot validated the commercial impact of the system, demonstrating the ability to grow up to 1 million additional basil plants per year within the same greenhouse footprint by dynamically spacing plants and converting previously unused floor space into productive growing area.
Rick Butler, chief executive officer of Butler Market Gardens, said the technology directly aligned with the future needs of commercial growers.
“We are excited to partner with YieldX on this pilot site.
“Increasing production capacity while improving labour efficiency is critical to our long-term strategy. In horticulture, standing still is not an option. Process and practice become obsolete very quickly if you do not innovate.
“We are proud to be part of this pioneering system and look forward to refining it to deliver results for growers around the world.”
The Lyndhurst demonstration site is now open to growers, distributors, industry leaders and investors, allowing the sector to see the system in operation, review performance data and understand how material gains in crop density, yield and land use efficiency can be achieved inside existing infrastructure.
The Lyndhurst demonstration site is now open to growers, distributors, industry leaders and investors.
The public launch was held in February.
YieldX chief executive officer and chief technology officer Nadun Hennayaka said the milestone represented the culmination of years of focused engineering and commercial discipline.
“This moment has been 5 years in the making.
“The NASA program proved the engineering, but our real ambition was always to make farming easier and more productive on Earth.
“We are focused on empowering growers with step change yet simple technology that helps ensure fresh food remains accessible to local communities. This is the first time growers can physically see what is possible at true commercial scale.”
In December 2025 YieldX secured a multi-year technology deployment agreement with Hyperpure by Zomato, the fresh supply chain arm of one of India’s largest publicly listed food and commerce platforms.
The agreement will see YieldX systems deployed across multiple controlled environment agriculture sites in and around New Delhi, supporting Hyperpure’s strategy to vertically integrate fresh produce supply and improve reliability through extreme summer heat and monsoon conditions.
The first Hyperpure expansion project is currently underway, with commissioning scheduled for mid year, followed by 2 further expansions planned for late 2026 and 2027.
The deployments will enable higher volumes of locally grown leafy greens with improved consistency and quality, strengthening Hyperpure’s value proposition to millions of daily customers.
YieldX chief commercial officer Jan Vydra, who joined the company in March 2025, said the technology addressed one of the most pressing challenges facing growers globally.
“Growers everywhere are under pressure, yet they remain some of the most resilient operators I know.
“I have spent more than 20 years assessing, buying, funding and deploying agricultural technology.
“Out of hundreds of systems, this one simply makes sense. It is simple, clever and scalable.
“This pilot gives the industry the proof points it needs, and I can confidently say YieldX is now open for business with a growing global pipeline.”
Entering 2026, YieldX is progressing from pilot to full commercial rollout, securing additional lighthouse customers in Australia and overseas.
The company has opened its pre–Series A investment round to support global go-to-market investment, technology refinement, global manufacturing scale and a strong international presence at major horticulture and protected cropping events and showcases.
With verified results now visible on the ground, YieldX is positioning Australian innovation at the forefront of the global transition to more productive, resilient and efficient food systems.
