By the numbers: Euroa’s second quarter barrage

Euroa bounced back from its round three defeat to Seymour in the best possible way as it flexed its muscles against an improved Shepparton United.

The Magpies were challenged early in the contest and led at quarter-time by four points, however, United was blown away in the second term as the hosts piled on a dominant 6.8 to 0.3.

Magpies coach Scott Rowan said after the match that his side was ”probably a little bit too manic’’ in the first quarter and “turned the ball over a little bit” which resulted in United scoring 3.0 from turnovers.

The home side corrected those mistakes and the defensive unit restrained the Dees’ dangerous forward line as Euroa chalked up seven rebound 50s and notched 11 turnovers — its lowest quarter count for the entire match.

United’s 20 turnovers resulted in Euroa scoring 4.6 off those mistakes and, while the Dees managed to boot three majors off turnovers in the opening term, Duane Hueston’s charges could only manage one point.

The host’s kicking efficiency was at 75 per cent in comparison to United’s 55 in the second term.

The Magpies were more efficient going inside 50 and went at 68 per cent for target entries and went at a whopping 87 per cent scoring efficiency.

Euroa posted 39 marks for the term and 10 of those came from marks inside 50.

No surprises to see star on-baller Will Hayes chalk up 10 disposals and four inside 50s in the second term, while gun defender Adam Giobbi tallied nine touches, three score involvements and three intercepts.
