Cr John Gerrard was last night made a life member of the Shepparton Apex Club.
A Shepparton City Councillor, he resigned from Apex because of council commitments last year. Last night at the club’s changeover he was presented with his life membership by outgoing club president Clyde Young.
Cr Gerrard was a former club president and held several other executive positions within the associations of Apex clubs. Accepting the life membership he said those concerned about welfare of their own community should be prepared to ‘‘get up and have a go’’ at improving the community.
He said the most effective way of doing this was through a service club like Apex. Also at last night’s dinner, two club members who were retiring from Apex were farewelled.
They were Joe Lia and Graham Glass. The dinner marked the end of term of office for the 1972-73 president Mr Young and the start of the 1973-94 term for the incoming president Bill Holyman.
