For more than 135 years the Show has been an important annual event in the community as warmer Spring weather and a new harvest is welcomed.
This year will be only the fourth time in the event’s 138-year history that the Yarrawonga & Border Agricultural & Pastoral Show Committee have had to cancel, the previous times were during World War II, flood and the past two years, COVID-19.
Show secretary Sue Jackson said the committee had to make the difficult decision to cancel the show once again with too much uncertainty around.
“At the moment people from NSW cannot come across which has been a major factor, especially as we are the Yarrawonga Mulwala show and our Mulwala patrons can’t even attend,” Mrs Jackson said.
“A lot of work has already gone into the organizing with a few of us down at the office every day but there is also still a lot to be done and there is just such uncertainty in these times that we had to make the call.
“We also wanted to show the sponsors respect as they always support us greatly
“We have waited until the last minute in the hopes we would be able to hold it and give the community something to look forward to but unfortunately that has not been the case.
“Hopefully the horse events even with limited restrictions could still be held.
“We have a good band of very dedicated volunteers who all hoped that we could go ahead, and who we also thank for their work.”
