The Berrigan Children's Centre Association is working with Moira Food Share and The Amaroo Kitchen to provide ensure nutricious meals each day.
BCCA president Caroline Swann said the program provides peace of mind for parents.
“This is a fantastic addition to our service. Families can drop their children off knowing they are having a hot nutritious meal in the middle of the day,” Mrs Swann said.
“Our parents are busy and we see this as one way of making their lives a little easier in the mornings and after work.”
“We have been working with the Moira Food share since July this year. This relationship has formed through the support of the Berrigan Lions Club.
“The Moira Food Share donates food for our centre which is used in daily cooking for morning teas and afternoon teas, especially for our school aged children.
“The Amaroo kitchen prepares meals for our children to purchase for lunches on a daily basis. These are hot meals and there is a main and dessert option that can be ordered each day.”
“I see these as a really helpful way to support our families currently doing it tough with dry times and zero water allocation.”
Mrs Swann said the food share programs are always an opportunity to teach the children about supporting their community.
“We are currently looking at ways we give back to these organisations, to help our children appreciate the donations we receive and build their empathy for others less fortunate than themselves.
“Our centre already has a long standing relationship with Amaroo. Our preschool children have been visiting the aged care facility since 2014 as part of the KITE (Kids Interacting with The Elderly) program.”
