Mrs Lines, a trained embryologist, worked for 25 years inside IVF clinics, putting sperm and eggs together to make embryos in Australia and around the world.
“I got fed up with the vast business nature of IVF clinics and I wanted to go back to helping people find a pathway through the huge business area of infertility,” Mrs Lines said.
“I set up my business, Two Lines Fertility, where I support and guide people through infertility.
“I provide them with education and resources to understand their bodies first and then navigate their options.”
Mrs Lines feels that the high school health education many of us received could have been more effective regarding fertility.
“It makes it very, very difficult to navigate when things don’t work how you thought they were going to,” she said.
“The sexual health stuff is about sexually transmitted diseases and wearing condoms and contraception.
“I want to talk to girls and women about what we put in our bodies that interrupt our hormones.”
Mrs Lines said women should understand the toxins they are putting in their bodies and how that may affect future fertility.
“BPA, phthalates, parabens, and all the makeup, perfumes, and stuff that we are being exposed to left, right and centre — if we know about them, we can then choose which things we want to try and avoid,” she said.
“We just carry on eating McDonald's three times a week and wrapping our lunch in plastic wrap every day, heating our food in the microwave in plastic containers and wearing perfumes and body sprays and all sorts of nasty things, and don’t realise the impact that they are having on our future fertility.”
Mrs Lines first supports women with the knowledge to understand what is happening and troubleshoots where the problems might lie.
She then helps them solve those problems by connecting them with health professionals who can best support them.
“Given that I worked in the industry all over the world for 25 years, I have many great contacts and help them navigate their way to the people who can best support them,” she said.
“Keeping them off Facebook forums and in the hands of medical professionals who can help them.”
Mrs Lines has gone through infertility herself, taking longer than she thought to conceive.
“I did go on to have two children, but I had multiple miscarriages in between and many years of infertility, all while working within the fertility sector and helping everyone else have babies,” she said.
