Ang and Cam Mangiameli’s journey began in 1991 at Cam’s Corner Milkbar, now known as The Milkbar on Fryers St.
As a young, enthusiastic couple with a passion for food and genuine hospitality, they quickly became known for their warm smiles and heartfelt service that made every customer feel at home.
In 1997, they returned to the family business The Wyndhamere Motel and Sebastian’s Restaurant where they spent the next 17 years living, working, raising their family, and growing both personally and professionally.
During this time, Ang returned to study, refining her culinary skills and mastering à la carte cuisine, while Cam continued to deliver exceptional service, creating memorable dining experiences for every guest.
From 2014 to 2016, they ran the kitchen at the Shepparton Football Club rooms, where they further cemented their ability to cater both intimate gatherings and large events.
Their presence was a highlight, especially the much-loved Thursday night footy club dinners.
In 2016, they pursued a long-held dream: to create a venue where people could come together to celebrate life’s big and small moments in a tranquil, beautiful setting.
They continued and enhanced The Woodshed at Emerald Bank.
At the time, Shepparton lacked a venue quite like it, and word spread quickly that Cam and Ang were back, now catering to grander occasions while still offering the warmth and personal touch they were known for.
Nearly a decade on, The Woolshed has become a premier destination, thanks to the talents of head chef Anthony Keating (once their apprentice at Sebastian’s) and their incredible team.
Set against a lakeside backdrop, The Woolshed is known for high-quality food, locally sourced wines and beverages, and truly outstanding service.
Like many, the Mangiamelis faced immense challenges during COVID.
Yet, Cam and Ang adapted, offering restaurant-quality takeaway meals that were a welcome treat for many during uncertain times.
It was a testament to their creativity, resilience and unwavering commitment to the community.
Recently, while reflecting with a friend on the incredible variety of events held at The Woodshed, from weddings, birthdays and funerals to disability workshops, fundraisers, and community gatherings, we noted one constant: the warmth, vibrancy and professionalism of Cam, Ang and their dedicated team.
Community is at the core of everything they do, and they embody the very best of what it means to give back.
They champion local produce, provide jobs for local people and support the region with generosity and heart.
One initiative especially close to both their hearts and ours is the annual ‘Make a Meal of June’ fundraiser for Shepparton FoodShare.
Even during the challenges of COVID, they found a way to keep the fundraiser going by delivering a three-course meal directly to people’s homes, with help from dedicated local volunteers.
Now in its seventh year, this event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
For Cam and Ang, addressing food insecurity is deeply personal.
“Food is a basic necessity, something no-one should go without,” they said.
By donating the event’s proceeds to FoodShare, they help ensure that no-one in our community goes hungry and that needs are met.
Giving back isn’t just something they do, it’s an integral part of who they are.
At this year’s Make a Meal of June, guests were treated to an exquisite menu, including:
Spiced cumin and oven-roasted sweet potato soup with walnut pesto
Spinach and ricotta cannelloni
Braised beef with red wine, mushrooms and root vegetables
Moroccan roasted chicken with Middle Eastern rice, vegetables and minted yoghurt
Chocolate walnut brownie fudge with ice cream
Apple frangipane pudding with cinnamon-spiced anglaise
It was a night that not only showcased culinary excellence but also celebrated the heart and soul of community spirit.
