Yesterday Mr Watson, from Shepparton, was given the keys to his Kia, which is valued at $24 593.
On New Year’s Eve, the night he discovered the news he'd won, it was so noisy at John Gray Oval for the Mooroopna New Year’s Eve Festival, Mr Watson said he couldn’t hear his prize announced.
“When you get old like me, you really struggle in crowds to hear anything,” he said.
“Anyway, I got up and bolted to the stage as fast as my legs could carry me and here we are.
“I feel elated.”
Mr Watson, 67, already has a six-year-old Hyundai, and plans to hold on to it.
That doesn’t mean he’s selling the Kia; instead, he’s giving it to his wife, Meishan Lin.
“I’m so excited,” she said.
Mr Watson said he and his wife’s first expedition in the new car would be to Bendigo to catch up with family members.
“I was talking to my sister in Bendigo this morning and it was her twins’ birthday the other day, so I sent scratchies over – I asked if they’d won anything,” he said.
“She said no, nobody in the family wins anything. But I said, `Sometimes things happen’ — but I haven’t said anything about the car to her yet.
“I’ll take the car over and say, `See, people do win'.”
