Poetry Slam heat
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Calling all budding poets or experienced wordsmiths, the Victorian heat of Poetry Slam is on at Shepparton library on Friday night. Capped at 20 participants, each with two minutes on the mic, the winners will go on to compete in the Victorian finals and maybe a place in the national final.
When: 6.30pm to 8.30pm, poets must be signed up by 6pm.

GV Last Man Standing Backyard Ultra
A unique running event is returning to Shepparton. At the Backyard Ultra, runners will do a 6.72km loop every hour on the hour. In 2022, the event ran for 31 hours, with the winner running 206km. Don’t be deterred by those figures, though. Come and do what you can, push yourself to your limits. You’ll be surprised how far you can go.
When: Saturday, September 9, to Tuesday, September 12. Race starts at noon.

Drawing workshop
As part of Greater Shepparton’s Activities in the Park campaign, community members aged 16 and over are invited to attend a drawing workshop. As the spring weather blooms, this is a great opportunity to get out and connect with nature. No registrations required.

Disco in the dark at Sprout
It’s a celebration at the silver-awarded Sprout edible garden for the Kiwanis Club of Shepparton Sunrisers. Outdoor activities and nature-based programs await, including a spotlight walk and silent disco. Park in the roundabout or gravel KidsTown car park, and go down to the Sprout garden behind the mazes.

Red Shoes Rock
The ninth day of the ninth month is International FASD Awareness Day. It’s a chance to get involved and raise awareness about fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Check out Shepparton’s Monash Park tree and Mooroopna’s water tower lit up red or sport red shoes to start conversations with people. NOFASD Australia chair Cheryl Dedman will be at Tatura Community House to bring further awareness to the day.

Shepparton swap meet
Run by the Goulburn Valley Motor Vehicle Drivers Club Inc, there’ll be more than 600 sites of veteran, vintage, and classic cars, motorcycle parts, collectibles, and bric-a-brac at this year’s Swap Meet. The Shepparton Showgrounds will be the place to be on Sunday for all gearheads.

Creative arts exhibition
GV West Country Women’s Association members will showcase their work on Sunday at Victory hall in Tatura. Talented members will display various arts, crafts and cookery for community members to enjoy.

Orchestra chamber series
Mark it in your calendar, it’s the last of the GV Concert Orchestra’s free Sunday afternoon chamber concerts. During August and September, members of the orchestra, past and present, have performed at Riverlinks Eastbank in Shepparton. Each week has been different, giving community members a new performance to look forward to. No bookings required.

Hamfest
Hamfest is here. Hosted by the Shepparton and District Amateur Radio Club, Hamfest is an exhibition of amateur radio equipment on display to view or purchase. Come check out amateur radios, CB radios, vintage radios, and other electronics. Plus, door and raffle prizes donated by Jaycar up for grabs.
When: doors open at 10am.
