September Sportstar 2019 nominees

By Riverine Herald

Congratulations to cricketer Grace Moyle and tennis player Isabella Crossman who are joint junior 2019 Sportstar of the Year September nominees.

It could easily be argued Grace Moyle is happiest when she has a bat and ball in her hand.

In recent years, the Echuca cricketer has developed into one of the state’s most talented juniors.

Now she has been rewarded with a second consecutive selection in the Victorian team for the School Sport Australia under 12 championships.

Moyle’s selection follows a stunning 12 month period where she was also selected in several other representative teams - including the Goulburn Murray Cricket side for the most recent Youth Country Week.

The under 12 side may not be the only state side Moyle plays for in coming months either as she moves into the final stages of Cricket Victoria’s under 15 selection process.

She will also spend time between the Echuca Cricket Club and Carlton-Brunswick Strikers in Melbourne.

The national championships will be held in November.

Tennis prodigy Isabella Crossman continues to add titles to her growing career.

Teaming up with Amelia Zylberman, Crossman claimed victory in the 12 and under girls doubles at the Victorian Junior State Claycourt Championships.

Going into the tournament as the top seeds, the team dominated every opponent in their way, after receiving the bye through their opening round.

The duo would drop just two games in a straight sets victory to advance to the semi-final, where another straight sets victory saw them advance to the final.

Against the number four seeds, Crossman and Zylberman took advantage early and never looked back, winning the title in a 6-2, 6-2 match.

It was the perfect warm-up for Crossman, who would head to Perth in the opening weeks of October to take part in the national grass court championships, looking to add further to her sporting resume.
