MURRAY River Council will be looking to fill the role of chief executive officer this year.
The current chief executive Des Bilske was appointed in February 2018 and his contract is set to end on December 31 this year.
This was designed to accommodate the original September 2020 local council election, now delayed due to COVID-19, and an extra three months for the new council to recruit a new chief executive.
The role is the only council staff position decided on by councillors.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, council accepted the recommendation to undertake an invited expression of interest for a recruitment consultant to join the selection panel.
Councillors voted for the panel to include mayor Chris Bilkey, deputy mayor Alan Mathers, a recruitment consultant, an independent member and two other councillors.
Councillors Nikki Cohen and Geoff Wise were selected for roles on the panel.
The panel is responsible for the selection process and will report back with their recommendations in a closed meeting of council.
