Four-week fixtures released

Deniliquin footballers Sam Lloyd and Todd Marshall now know when and where they will return to the footy field.

The AFL released its fixture for the next four rounds of the 2020 season on Monday afternoon.

Each fixture scheduled will be played without crowd attendance.

Marshall is excited for the chance to stay in Adelaide for the first fixture before his Port Adelaide side travel to the Gold Coast in Queensland to play the next three rounds.

The Adelaide derby will be on June 13 at the Adelaide Oval. The two sides split last season’s encounters.

Port Adelaide dropped the first game in round eight on May 11, 9.14 (68) to 15.10 (88) before bouncing back in round 16 with a dominant performance 15.11 (101) to 5.14 (44).

Marshall will travel to the Gold Coast to play the next two rounds at Metricon Stadium against Fremantle on June 21 and West Coast on June 27.

The Adelaide side split the two match series against Fremantle last season and came away with a big Round Five win against West Coast.

Their final game will be against Brisbane on July 7 at The Gabba.

If last season is anything to judge, Port Adelaide will have their hands full against Brisbane. The Queensland side won both fixtures against the Power in Round Three and 17.

Marshall said while he’s excited for the derby game, he’s looking forward to the unique fixtures in the Gold Coast.

‘‘The showdown is locked in for Adelaide oval which will be good, it will be a bit of a different feel without a crowd for either team but still a good experience,’’ Marshall said.

‘‘Then (we’re) up to Goldy (Gold Coast) for a few weeks at this stage so should be a good trip hopefully, (we) have to have a positive mind set coming to it.’’

Lloyd will be lacing up his boots for the Western Bulldogs for the first time since March 20.

The Bulldogs have been lucky with the released four-round fixtures, playing three at home in Marvel Stadium.

Lloyd will reopen his 2020 campaign against St Kilda on June 14 at home.

Last season the Bulldogs lost their only match against the Saints in Round 18 on July 21 when they went down 14.5 (89) to 17.14 (116).

Lloyd will stay in town for one more round at home on June 19 against Greater Western Sydney Giants.

The Bulldogs split last season’s two game match up, the first was a thumping win in Round 22, August 18, 19.12 (126) to 9.11 (65).

Unfortunately they didn’t win when it counted, losing in the first round of finals to GWS 8.7 (55) to 16.17 (113) on September 7.

Lloyd will travel north to Sydney to play the Swans at the Sydney Cricket Ground on June 25.

In the sole match up against the Swans last season, the Bulldogs scraped through with a 11.16 (82) to 9.11 (65) Round One win on March 23.

The last scheduled fixture of 2020 to be released will pit Lloyd against North Melbourne on July 4 at home.
