Shepparton’s autumn dairy sale delivered confident results last Friday, May 1, with 100 Holstein cows going under the hammer and achieving a complete clearance.

Auctioneer Brian Leslie said the sale reflected renewed confidence in the dairy market, with cattle selling to strong demand both ringside and online.
The auction averaged about $4100 per head, signalling solid buyer appetite following a quieter period for stud sales.
Top price of the day was paid for Tomargo’s Brurob Stchief Betsyann 3, which sold for $11,250 to Sawdust Holsteins, Jancourt East.
The outstanding cow had recently tested at 63 litres, producing 3.94 kilograms of milk solids, drawing strong competition from multiple bidders.
The second-highest seller was Tomargo’s Lambdas Gina, knocked down for $9500 to a buyer from the Hunter Valley in NSW.
Three vendors, Tomargo, Starcrest and Newhope Holsteins, offered stock at the sale, presenting 100 autumn-calved Holsteins of consistent quality.
All cattle were sold, resulting in a 100 per cent clearance rate.
Tomargo Lambdas Gina was the second top-selling cow, fetching $9500.

Mr Leslie said the sale was one of the first major dairy auctions held in some time and provided a clear indication that demand was strengthening.
“The studs presented cattle of exceptional quality, using similar AI bulls, driving very strong bidding,” he said.
Buyers were active from Victoria, NSW and South Australia, with bidding available in person at the Shepparton saleyards, as well as via phone and online platforms.
Mr Leslie noted that online participation continued to grow, resulting in smaller physical crowds but increasingly strong sale results.
Attention now turns to this week’s major dispersal of the Kaarmona stud at Kaarimba, beginning at 11am on Thursday and Friday, May 7 and 8.
The sale will mark the end of an era for the renowned operation, celebrated for Master Breeder achievements in both Holstein and Jersey herds.
