Corowa Indoor Bowls

The club’s Sunday afternoon winners on two wins of 18 and 16 were Sandra Dudziak, Beryl Greaves, Georgie Agnew and Gwen Mills. The runners up on a win and a loss of 17 and 3 were Noel O’Rourke, Peter Manning, Gus Sander and Peter Dodds.

Tuesday’s winners on two wins of 18 and 17 were Sandra Dudziak, Marj Pratt, Joe Wilson and Sue Trembath. The runners up being Gwen Mills, Joan Catlin and Gus Sander on two wins, but of 17 and 17.

Midweek Pennant – Round 7

A2 – Corowa RSL 83 def Mulwala 55. The A2s travelled to Club Mulwala where they won 83/55, placing them second on the ladder. 

B1 – Corowa RSL 61 def by Swanpool 65. The B1s travelled to Swanpool where they just went down 61/65, this places them third on the ladder. Keep it going mid-week players.

Saturday Pennant 

Corowa RSL Bowls had good results from Saturday Pennant contests, with all three teams posting a win.  

A2 – Corowa RSL 120 def Benalla 60. The A2s were at home to Benalla where they had a comfortable win 120/60, placing them first on the ladder.  

Results: Shawn McMahon (S), Jim Walker, Hayden Brockley and Dom Carroll 41/12.  Ryan Davies (S), Ken Widdison, Kaz Hughes and Peter Browne 28/15.  Jordy Thornton (S), Ernie King, Alan Bartlett and Keith Mills 20/16. Wayne Lee (S), Raz Porter, Gordon Johnstone and Rod Garthwaite 20/16, 4 rinks up, a really great effort.

A4 – Corowa RSL 95 def Swanpool 89. The A4s also played at home where they hosted Swanpool.  The game came down to the wire with the final result being 95/89 RSL’s way.  A4s are now fourth on the ladder.

Results: Alan Holmquest (S), Laurie Way, Tony Coughlin and Ann Milkins 17/22.  Barry Warburton (S), Alan Jones, Lex Thornton and Chris Reilly 27/25. Peter Smith (S), David Muir, Roly Nixon and Jeff Nixon 26/17. Lance Davis (S), David Lewis, Lynne Mills and Ray Bourke drew 25/25.  

B2 – Corowa RSL 74 def Corowa Civic 65. The B2s travelled down the road to play Corowa Civic where they hosted another close game.  Corowa RSL came out on top 74/65. B2s have climbed to fifth on the ladder.

Results: Neil Bathols (S), Les Thomson, Jim Ward and Judy Black 23/15. Sam Nixon (S), Wendy Robb, Anne Smith and Robyn Fierenzi 20/31. Tony Fierenzi (S), Janet Davis, Dux McQueen and Neville McPherson 31/19.  

We only have one more week of Saturday Pennant before the Christmas break, so let’s keep the momentum going.  The first game back for 2020 is Saturday, January 11.

Triples Finals 

The club triples finals were played on Sunday, December 8 in beautiful weather, hardly any wind which made a change.  

The winners of the Men’s triples were Ernie King (S), Raz Porter and Alan Holmquest  

Results: They played Peter Smith, David Muir and Ray Bourke.  Final score was 19/13.   Janet Davis (S), Lynne Mills and Robyn Fierenzi had a win over Laurie Way (S), Marie Jones and Irene Biggs 16/9. 

Both games were played in great spirits. All players would like to thank all the people that turned out to watch, thank you.

Xmas “Not Hamper” Day

Christmas Hamper day was a great success on Sunday and big turnout of members and their partners, a lovely meal was served up to all by the catering ladies. 

A big thank you to all who brought along either a salad or sweet and helped on the day.

Triple Winners – Pam Tobias, Bev Smethurst and Darren Richards. Runner up – Estelle Hollingsworth, Michael Hoey and Margaret Shipcott.

Pairs Winners – John Curtis and Graeme McIntosh. Runner up – Brian Davies and Brian Shipcott

Volunteer Award

As the club depends so much on volunteers for the running of a very successful program it was very special for one of the members, Lynton Ford, to be awarded a certificate for all the work he does in running events for Corowa Civic Bowls Club and the bowls region, which was presented by O&M Bowls President Laureen Smith. Congratulations Lynton.

Men’s Singles 

The final of the Men’s Club Singles Championship between Col Hendren and Ian Lewis will be held on Saturday, December 21, at 9.30am. Please note change of date.  \Come along and support Col and Ian and witness great bowling.

Club Mixed Pairs

The draw for the Club Mixed Pairs is now on the notice board. This event will take place on Sunday, December 15, at 9.30am. 

It is excellent to see the many members who are supporting these club events.

A1 and B2 had home games this week with A1 coming away with a good win. B2 had a hard slog but unfortunately couldn’t get the points.  A4 and B3 had away games and both had wins.

Unfortunately not a good day for A1 this week after going down to a strong YMGRC.  A3 travelled to Wodonga who were too strong.  B2 at home had a good win against Dederang.
