Family histories are often full of surprises, with unexpected connections and long-forgotten stories coming to light.

Led by retired nurse Bernadette Griffiths, Shepparton Library’s connecting with the past sessions invite curious minds to uncover the most valuable pieces of their past.

News reporter Khadija Hadjab took the opportunity to sit down with participants to find out what hidden gems and secrets they uncovered about their ancestry.

The next session will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 6 to 7pm. Find out more at https://www.gvlibraries.com.au/events

Finding your roots, where you come from. I hope our children will eventually show interest, too.

It’s important to know where you come from, how you got there and what your ancestors achieved. I am a great believer in doing better than what your ancestors did.

It’s important to find out what they (your ancestors) went through. I am really grateful to not live in older centuries.

I really enjoy meeting other people interested in genealogy.
