St Brendan’s to host vigil amid Middle East turmoil

A special prayer vigil will be held at St Brendan’s Catholic Church tomorrow, Thursday October 12.

Starting at 7.30pm, community members are invited to light a candle and join in prayers for peace for the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine.

The service aims to bring together individuals from different faiths, community groups, civic leaders, and all those with goodwill in their hearts, uniting them in their hope for global harmony.

“We wish to show our solidarity and prayerful support for all those who are affected,” St Brendan’s assistant priest Fr Jackson Saunders said.

“One thing we can do is pray for peace. To remember those who have tragically lost their lives in the conflict and for the safety of those who are in danger.”

Fr Jackson also shared his concern for local residents.

“I am aware of parishioners and others around Shepparton who have loved ones caught up in this war,” he said.

“Fr Junjun Amaya, who is the Parish Priest of Wodonga, is currently on a Sabbatical in the Holy Land. He also is seeking refuge in the conflict and has been in air raid shelters in recent days.”
