Led by society president Reg Qemal and Imam Hysni Merja, the group has been delivering meals to families attending the program, which have been expertly cooked by Karen Resul and the team from Stanley’s Café.
An initiative of the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, the Mooroopna Family Haven offers a safe and welcoming space where parents, carers and children can relax, play and build friendships. Many of the families who attend face social, emotional, financial or health-related challenges, and the Mooroopna Family Haven provides support through positive connections and pathways to services.
Alongside preparing and delivering meals, Mrs Resul, Mr Qemal and Mr Merja have had the opportunity to sit and chat with families and staff, including Lighthouse executive officer Amy Robinson.
“When the community comes together, opportunities for learning and a deeper appreciation of each other’s experiences help strengthen the social fabric of our region,” Ms Robinson said.
“Lighthouse extends heartfelt thanks to the Albanian Society of Shepparton for their generous support and for fostering cultural connection by sharing a meal with the Family Haven families.”
The Shepparton Albanian Moslem Society is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the culture and identity of the Albanian Muslim community in regional Victoria.
The group also champions mutual understanding and collaboration among the many cultural communities that enrich life in the Goulburn Valley.
