Nearby towns, including Tocumwal, Yarrawonga and Numurkah, all have permanent visiting centres and many locals say Cobram is missing out.
A recent Facebook poll showed the Cobram community supported refurbishing the original building of the old Cobram Information Centre.
Moira Shire Council general manager community Sally Rice said the building was proposed to become a visitor information point as part of an Expression of Interest for use and development, which will be released in the new year.
“Any interested parties, businesses or organisations are encouraged to submit an application to this EOI process,” she said.
“The building itself is currently undergoing upgrade works.
“While this upgrade and EOI process is underway, our mobile van is out and about servicing the community.”
In May this year, Moira Shire Council turned a van into a mobile visitor information centre which would be situated at various locations throughout the shire to direct tourists to the region's attractions.
“Visitors love it and we’re seeing locals that we would not otherwise see,” Ms Rice said.
“We have had some locals provide feedback on how we can improve this service and we welcome those comments.”
The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the operation of the mobile van, but it is now back in use.
Locations of the van will be made available on the Sun Country on the Murray website at www.visitthemurray.com.au/places-to-go/central/suncountry
