After a four-month hiatus because of COVID-19, the Supercars series resumed with its round three event, the Sydney SuperSprint.
McLaughlin was the driver to beat, finishing the weekend with two pole positions, two race wins and a third placing behind Nick Percat and Jamie Whincup in race two.
No crowds call at Winton made ahead of Supercars return
Following a solid day of racing on Sunday, McLaughlin said the outcome was exactly what his team, DJR Team Penske had wanted.
“Our qualifying pace was right there all weekend, and I felt really comfortable with the car,” McLaughlin said.
“We just had to make it better across the race run compared to (Saturday), which we did.“I think we did a really good job with the car with regards to tyres.
“I couldn’t really look after them that well yesterday but we put a few thought processes into it and it went well today.
“The car was an absolute dream to drive in that last race.”
Superbikes take first spin at Winton since lockdown
McLaughlin leads the series championship rankings after two rounds, 49 points clear of Jamie Whincup in second, with Chaz Mostert just behind in third.
DJR Team Penske also sits atop the team championship rankings.
