But it won't be easy.
A pre-season documentary revealed the Giants captain's promise. A striking charge late last season cost him a one-game ban, adding to Greene's extensive tribunal record.
Over his 261-game career Greene has missed 16 more through suspensions.
Asked on Thursday about the key to keeping a clean suspension slate this season, Greene said: "just don't be silly, really.
"I have to make sure I deliver on that, but I will probably we more worried about running and getting to the footy in the midfield than any of that silly stuff.
"I've certainly struggled with it for 15 years ... I have to be aware of when that's a possibility.
"I'm pretty locked in. I'm just trying to nail my role. I should be right."
Greene will spend more time in the midfield this season, which he said was happening before Tom Green's season-ending knee injury.
The star onballer was hurt last month, among a succession of injuries which have depleted the Giants for the start of the season.
Now one of the game's top forwards, Greene started his storied AFL career more as a midfielder.Â
So it will be back to the future for him, starting in Saturday's season opener at home against Hawthorn.
"It's still a work in progress - I'm not exactly sure how much it will be, but I'm looking forward to having a crack at that against a good midfield this weekend and try to build on that over the next month," Greene said.
"Then we'll probably reassess. It's been enjoyable and something different.
"It's a good challenge, it's different. I don't think I've hit my straps yet."
Greene admitted that the injuries to teammates such as Green had been "flattening", but he is unfazed about the Giants' chances this season.
"Over the last 10 years, 10 good teams haven't had good players in their premiership sides. It happens every year - it means other guys are going to have to step up," Greene said.
"Guys like myself have to deliver as well."
He is also rapt with former Melbourne onballer Clayton Oliver, who will make his Giants debut against the Hawks.
"His midfield craft, his stoppage work, he's been as a good as anyone (over) the last 10 years," Greene said.
"So that's what he's brought and that's what he will bring.
"He's slotted in very nicely and 'Snooze', Toby Bedford, has looked after him (as housemates) ... he's pretty happy, comfortable.
"In terms of how he plays, there's probably been some adjustment for him. But he know what' he's doing, he's a good footballer."
