The political uncertainty in Tasmania continues as Governor Barbara Baker reappointed Jeremy Rockliff as premier following the July 19 state election, which failed to deliver a clear majority to either major party.
The Liberals retained 14 seats while Labor held their 10, both falling short of the 18 seats needed to form government. The crossbench consists of five Greens MPs, five independents, and notably, Carlo Di Falco, who made history as Tasmania's first Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party representative in the electorate of Lyons.
'I will continue working with the crossbench to ensure stable government for Tasmania,' Premier Rockliff said while negotiating with four of the five crossbenchers to secure support for his minority government.
Parliament is scheduled to resume on August 19, where the Liberal government may face another no-confidence motion from Labor or independents. If successful, a subsequent confidence motion in Labor could pave the way for them to form government.
