After continued advocacy work by the Australian Deer Association through the Tasmanian Deer Advisory Committee (TDAC), we have some great news for Tasmanian deer hunters.
Eight new areas managed by Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT) are now open for public hunting access.

Sustainable Timber Tasmania manages 821,000 hectares of land, representing just over 12% of Tasmania’s total land area. The majority of this – around 812,000 hectares – is classified as Permanent Timber Production Zone (PTPZ) land, providing significant opportunities for recreational hunting access.
These newly opened parcels expand opportunities for hunters to access Tasmania’s forests while supporting responsible deer management across the state.
The Australian Deer Association’s efforts have been led over many years by our Tasmanian Coordinator, Scott Freeman. Without Scott’s tireless work and persistence such an outcome would not have been possible.
Hunters planning to access these areas should ensure they understand the permit requirements, maps and access conditions provided by Sustainable Timber Tasmania.
The Australian Deer Association will continue advocating for greater hunting access and recognition of hunters as a key part of wildlife management in Australia.
