Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos today announced that the National Parks Act will be amended to allow seasonal deer hunting in the Errinundra and Snowy River National Parks (early 2026) as a direct result of the advocacy efforts of the Australian Deer Association.
The Australian Deer Association has consistently advocated for and campaigned for greater public land access for recreational deer hunting across Australia. This latest success builds upon our legacy of public land victories in New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria.
This update to the National Parks Act will bring the Snowy River and Errinundra National Parks into line with other deer hunting meccas, such as the Alpine National Park, which was also unlocked as a result of the deer people’s advocacy efforts.
Recreational deer hunting contributes over $200 million to the Victorian economy and helps support more than 3,100 jobs, many of which are in regional areas.
Public land access to National Parks in Victoria is made possible by the game status of wild deer, which provides regulation and oversight to recreational hunters without impeding their control.
