Raducanu loses in Austria

Emma Raducanu has lost to Xinyu Wang of China in the Linz Open.

Emma Raducanu's stellar season came to a disappointing end with defeat by Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu in Austria on the day the identity of her new coach was revealed.

Top seed at a WTA Tour event for the first time at the Upper Austria Ladies Raducanu started badly, revived, then suffered a late injurybefore losing 6-1 6-7 (0-7) 7-5 to 106th-ranked Wang 

Raducanu, who needed treatment for a leg injury after being broken for 4-5 in the final set, saved a match point in the subsequent game before breaking back. But then faded.

Earlier it was reported Raducanu, who will be 19 on Saturday, will announce announce Torben Beltz as her new coach.

The German 44, worked with Angelique Kerber when she won the Australian Open and the US Open in 2016.

They reunited for this season but Kerber announced on Monday they would not be working together in 2022.

Raducanu has been looking for a coach with extensive experience of the WTA Tour having called time on her arrangement with Briton Andrew Richardson who helped her become the first qualifier to win the US Open in September.
