The 60-year-old, reflecting on his dismissal from two Premier League clubs, Tottenham and Forest, in the past 12 months, admitted that back in May he would felt it was impossible that he'd end up last weekend watching TV as the two clubs which had dumped him scrapped to avoid relegation.
But Postecoglou has retained his confidence in himself, promising that the bad experiences have only fuelled his determination to return.
He outlined his ambitions in an interview with Melbourne-based radio station SEN 1116, admitting he didn't know when and where his return would come but adding: "I haven't even scratched the surface of what I want to do over here yet and the impact I want to make, the football I want to play.
"I want to win things still. I still have that drive and passion to achieve, that hasn't changed. The fact now it's the first time I'm coming off a bad experience - that's just more fuel for me.
"Wherever I go in, there will be plenty of scepticism. That's brilliant, that's what I need. Get the gloves, put the helmet on again, and go really hard.
"I know whatever it is going to be, I have this thing in my head that this will be the best one I've done yet ... the recent experiences, maybe I needed them.
"You can't always be flying high and successful. Sometimes you need to cop a couple of whacks.
"I'm not done yet, mate! There's still a bit to do."
Postecoglou admitted after his sacking at Spurs, despite winning the Europa League there, he was too hasty to take the Forest job in September.
"It didn't work out. It's probably hurt me reputationally, probably here in the EPL for sure, but I don't worry about that.
"It didn't leave any marks on me as a person or a football manager. If anything, it allowed me to know that next time, I will seek some counsel before I bite off more than I can chew."
There was, though, a "brutal" ending to his calamitous 39-day reign at Forest, as he learned of his sacking straight after a 3-0 home loss to Chelsea and eventually escaped in his car.
"I got stuck at the traffic lights for 15 minutes, I had Chelsea fans giving it to me, Forest fans weren't much kinder, and then I had little kids coming up and asking for a selfie!" Postecoglou smiled.
"I paid for my penance. I paid a heavy price.
"It may have affected me at a different stage of my life, but I've had 28 unbelievable years. Things I could never have dreamed of as a kid. I had a bad couple of months. Really, who cares?"
