Perth-based Alkane Resources, which produces gold and antimony, announced the landmark news on Tuesday as it presented its 2025/26 production results.
"We've had a tremendous year of operations ... all happening in an historically high gold (price) environment," chief executive Nic Earner told a briefing.
Alkane operates two major gold plays - Tomingley near Dubbo in central west NSW, and Bjorkdal in Sweden - as well as the Costerfield gold and antimony mine east of Bendigo in Victoria and the Boda-Kaiser gold and copper porphyry project in central western NSW.
"I'm proud to say that we've met the top end of our production guidance, we've met cost guidance at each site, and we're just above our cost guidance for the group," Mr Earner said.
"A great result in what we can all agree has been a pretty turbulent environment."
Over the year ended June 30, production totalled a record 168,337 ounces of gold equivalent across its mining operations, at a realised price of $A5,664 (or $US3,965) per ounce.
The realised price for antimony, which is used to make flame retardants and batteries and is key to making electronics and specialised military equipment, was $A32,032 per tonne.
Alkane is aiming for a slightly higher level of production in 2026/27 of between 163,000 and 177,000 ounces of gold equivalent.
Alkane's strong balance sheet and record operating cash flows of $174 million across its three main underground mines mean it now plans to pay a dividend to its investors for 2025/26.
"The board is proposing to return to shareholders an inaugural dividend of two cents per share, fully franked," Mr Earner said.
The payout is subject to certain audit requirements and final board confirmation, ahead of its full-year earnings announcement around the third week of August.
It would be the first cash dividend paid by Alkane since it first listed on the stock exchange 57 years ago in 1969, when it was focused on oil and gas exploration in the Sydney basin.
Since then, Alkane has shifted to gold and base metals.
In the late 1970s, it operated the Peak Hill mine near Parkes, NSW, before the asset was put into care and maintenance, with Alkane now focused on its current lineup.
Shares in Alkane, which has an Australian market value of almost $2 billion, were trading down one per cent to $1.31 in morning trading.
