GV Suns vs Manningham match preview

By Liam Nash

Coming off the back of yet another win in the National Premier League Two East, the Goulburn Valley Suns will grace the Theatre of Dreams tonight with their minds firmly fixed on taking three points from its bout with Manningham United Blues.

While the Suns have been in a considerably rich vein of form of late with a single loss from its past nine fixtures, Manningham have shared a similar run stumbling only twice from the same amount of games.

Last's weeks 4-1 scalp of Northcote City reiterated the Suns scoring prowess, with the side now topping the NPL2 goalscoring charts with 39 in 20 games.

However, the Orangemen remain level on points with Manningham, sitting a place below in sixth with the Blues holding a slightly better goal difference than the Goulburn Valley outfit.

The last time the sides met resulted in a barnstorming affair that went right down to the wire, with the Suns emerging from David Barro Stadium with three points after edging the hosts 5-4.

Suns coach Craig Carley touched on the importance in gaining another win at home, admitting it will take a similar effort to overcome the giant slaying Blues.

'They are a good passing side, I was impressed with them the first time we played them on the artificial surface where we managed to pick up the three points,' Carley said.

'I know this contest will be no different, it will be a very tight match and hopefully we can come out with a positive result and close the gap on the teams that are above us.'

The Suns will kick off at McEwen against Manningham United Blues at 7pm, with the under-20s curtain raiser beginning at 5pm.
