Disability advocate

Australia Day ambassador Dr Peter Langkamp will speak at the Seymour festival.

Dr Langkamp was nominated for the honour by Mitchell Shire Council in recognition of his work in the disability sector.

He became an advocate for people with disabilities and their carers when he became the parent of a child with a disability.

Dr Langkamp is currently the President of Carers Australia, the peak national body that represents unpaid carers in Australia.

He is the Director of genU, a group involved in disability services, NDIS co-ordination and aged care as well as the Director of Wellways, a not-for-profit mental health organisation with ties to the NDIS.

Dr Langkamp has had a long and successful corporate career in finance.

He is currently the eCommerce lead at the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, working on a project to make banking easier and more accessible in the electronic age for those with a disability and the elderly.

Prior to this, he was an ICT (information and communication technologies) strategic advisor to the NDIS.

He has been the CEO for two businesses, Novare and Callista Software Services as well as director of business development for Accenture.

Dr Langkamp is also responsible for the Fly Buys program which was launched in 1995.
