Cobram Roar launched its fundraising program to life members, past and present players and supporters on May 5.
The club has committed to raising more than $300000 to fund the community capital contribution of the building and fitting out a kitchen and social rooms.
Roar has so far received generous donations from Saputo and Cobram Community Enterprise and was seeking support from the community.
The launch event was well attended with special guests, including Victorian Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy, Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica and councillor Gary Cleveland.
The speakers talked of the rich history of soccer in Cobram and recognised the need for the past to band together with the present to support this project which will give soccer a home in the future.
Roar president Manny Artavilla said the facility at Apex Reserve would not only provide a home for soccer but would benefit the whole community.
‘‘The building will enhance the sporting features already at Apex Reserve by providing accessible toilets and change rooms and a social space which will allow people in the community to come together.’’
